Oct 25 - Nov 4 Ghazaleh Rastgar: "Venus Rising"

Venus Rising

Venus Rising is a solo exhibition of works by Toronto based artist, Ghazaleh Rastgar - Ghazaraza.

The Exhibition runs from October 25 to November 4, 2018.

This body of work aims to shed light on the female sexuality which has been suppressed and commodified for at least the last millennia. There are many narratives attached to how, when and why a woman should accept and express herself physically. These standards are lopsided and were designed to keep women muzzled and subdued. I created these paintings to portray women unapologetic and in charge of reclaiming their true selves through something as human and natural as the body and sexuality.

About the artist:
Ghazaleh is an Iranian-born artist and illustrator based in Toronto. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design with a Bachelor of Design. In 2016, after years of working in the Design industry, she ventured back into the world of visual arts.
Her colourful murals can be found around Toronto. She’s influenced by her Iranian background, feminism, nature, people, music, poetry and spirituality.
