This collection of work is the beginning – and what I expect to be a lifelong process – of trying to make sense out of the most frightening and absorbing aspects of human duality. By engaging psychological narratives, displaced imagery, dreams, nightmares, and re-imagined archetypes, I hope to somehow catch a glimpse of what remains most inaccessible. Digging out buried pieces of the mind means having to reconcile those pieces, however terrifying or ecstatic, with what it means to be human. We are comfortable to separate our personal reality from what threatens us, but no one is a spectator of humanity, and no one is absolved of it. I am intent on searching the areas that hinge between good and evil, predator and prey, beauty and the grotesque, because none of us is either/or. I can only find comfort in trying to better understand this through the truth in image, that human is the monster; and ‘when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you’.
